Weeks/Williams
« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 17:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Need help seeking further details of Morgan Williams born circa 1804 in Llynegwr Glam married Winefred born circa 1805 from Llangwmd Glam.

I have traced them on the IG Index but can find no further details except that of Morgan but no parentage or maiden name for Winefred.  Their daughter Catherine married Joseph Weeks circa 1851, it is through this marriage my husband's ancestry is connected which in turn linked with the name of Rapps.

I know this may be a very long shot but I know how resourceful everyone on here is.

Thanks again.

Ann

it's only the 1851 census where she shows up as Winifred. She's Gwenllian in the other years. Her parish of birth appears to be Llangeinor.

There is a marriage that would fit - Morgan Williams of Llangonyd to Gwenllian Bevan of Llangeinor in Llangeinor 23/4/1831. The two places are only a few miles apart.

You can get a copy of the parish entry from the record office in Cardiff

Do you have birth certificates for any of the children born after the start of civil registration? It would confirm mother's maiden name.

Beware of the submitted records on the IGI, they need to be verified and treated with the greatest suspicion. The dates for some relatives of my mother on a submitted record are all 10 years earlier than they should be and we're not talking early records here, but ones from the 1900s. Easily checked on the GRO index as both first name & surname are unusual, but no, the submitter has made the whole family 10 years older than they were.

Thanks Osprey

No I dont have any certs at present as this is my husband's line and only getting to grips with this as I have been concentrating on my own side which is Irish and I thought that was hard to trace.  Will take heed of your warning re IGI.

Thanks again
