Me thinks there is a connection with Margaret Ann Blackett to this tree:

http://www.theblacketts.com/gedcom/individual.php?pid=I8079&ged=MalcomIII.ged.txt

Making her a descendent of King Malcolm III

By my reckoning:

King Malcolm III of Scotland is the 23 x paternal great grandfather of Margaret Ann Blackett

Hi Rubyruby
I was stumped by this one for a while too. My husband's line is from Emily Wheatley (Blackett). Unfortunately the birth certificate doesn't have her father's name on it but given that Hugh Marshall Blackett is listed as her father on her marriage certificate I've decided to go with that. Elizabeth Jane Wheatley was their mother and she died in 1875. Hugh died in 1877 and on his death certificate John is the informant and his surname is Blackett. So I think they must have changed their surname some time between 1871 and 1877.... I was wondering if maybe Hugh's wife Mary Ann was in a hospital or asylum or something because Hugh is listed on 1861 and 1871 census as married but his wife is not there. Thought maybe that was why he never married Elizabeth Wheatley??

hi Zoels,   are you the same as me & getting tied in knots with this one.  In 1851 census he is just down as Marshall, there is a long list of Mary Ann Blackett's deaths, she could be one of those.  What do you think about the line going back to King Malcolm III of Scotland.  They like to keep the Marshall name going as my grandfather was william marshall.

Sorry to tke so long to reply - my computer has been having "issues"...
I did have a look at the blacketts website and was told by one of the administrators to send in our info but I haven't got around to it. It's a long way back to King Malcolm and there are ALOT of gaps from what I remember. They did seem to like to keep family names going. Marshall was Hughs mother's maiden name. One of my other lines has half a dozen "William Henry's" and my direct line has even more "James Robinson's". It's tricky getting info here in Australia unless you're a paid member of something. Also tricky because my mother-in-law was adopted so we have no handed down info...

HI

I have just read everything about Margaret Ann.  My gg grand father was Hugh Marshall Blackett.  As you said he did not marry Elizabeth Wheatley and I am wondering why.  What happened to Mary Ann Lockey?  Hugh's daughter Francis Marshall Blackett was put in the work house at Stanhope I think because she was pregnant but went on to have my grand father John William and also Elizabeth, the eldest son Marshall died when he was a child about 6 years old. I would love to get in touch  with more info.
