Having read the posts I must admit I was totally surprised. I joined Genes Reunited about two years ago (before it changed its name) and I have never had error messages, and 99% of messages I have sent have been replied to. I have found several descendants of lost relatives there, one only two days ago. Any suggestions I have made to the Genes people has been politely replied to and in one case acted upon.
I have to say though that Rootschat is far more helpful, but I believe that Genes Reunited has its place too. Especially if you're at the other end of the world from your research.

As far as I know that isn't true.

Where did you hear this mc8?

Ryan.

:)
when you click on shared trees and view relations, you get the option to view / edit details. I haven't wanted to tinker with anyone else's tree-but I guess this option works...

I too have noticed that is says 'edit' where you mentioned mc8, but if you click on it you can't actually edit other people's trees. So you see, there's nothing to worry about there.

Thanks for replying.

Ryan.

Hello suepernz -  As you will see from my previous mails on this thread I have never had a reply to any of my e-mails to G.R.  :o - not one.
As you are in N.Z. too and have had no trouble in that direction I must try again sometime.
Apart from that small annoying fact  I am quite happy with them.  Regards.

Happy New Year All

I've found GenesReunited quite interesting - have found several connections on the "fringe" of my family which have been helpful.  I also made a lady in the States very happy by being able to supply her with photos of a mutual relative she didn't know existed!  For serious research you can't beat Rootsweb of course!  GR is quite hit & miss but you never know when you'll strike it lucky.

Sorry, but I beg to differ, and I think many people will agree with me that Rootschat beats Rootsweb any day for serious research.

If we are drifting in to Rootsweb chat it really depends on what list you are on.

Some lists are excellent others are a minefield of sarcasm and unpleasantness.  Some are just dead - no posts at all.

Another feature with Rootsweb is that it makes your email address public a fact that sadly killed my email addresses in the past.

As Rootsweb is a collection of disparate news groups brought together under the banner Rootsweb I'm sure we all have different experiences.  It would be a bit of a hijack of this thread to go furtehr.

It has to be said that both RootsChat and Genes Reunited are leagues above RootsWeb. RootsWeb is stale, old hat, etc....

I thought I should mention that recently, via GR, I have discovered my Mum's Uncle's mystery daughter he fathered prior to marrying my Mum's aunt. This lady was adopted soon after she was born and never knew her biological parents. She's been searching for family for years and I'm the first person she's found. Thanks to me and GR she now has heaps of info on her father's family including photographs ;D
Over the holidays I've also made contact with 2 people descended from my GGGGG Grandfather David Yeldham, and 2 others descended from his brother George!

Ryan.

Whoops Mary - didn't mean to offend!!
Of course I meant RootsChat - have never looked at RootsWeb, just got blurry eyed by reading all the posts.
