I've never been contacted by anyone actually related to me through GR, but in researching the trees of two friends lately I've had staggering success.  For friend "M" I found 3 people related to her, one of whom had done the research right back to the 16th century on a couple of lines.  For friend "G" I have, in less than a week, found 3 of her distant cousins, with information I didn't have, though without having got any further back.  The point is that when a site like GR is genuinely useful and popular it attracts more and more people and so the connections proliferate.  If we could persuade everybody with a family tree to put it on a single site, how easy it would be - but it would probably take the fun out of it.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Hi all

I joined GR a year last  oct after a recommendation from some cousin contact, but did nothing as  too busy  searching ancestors.  Rejoine last oct 04 and within 3 days had 3 thrid cousins, contacts  thick and fast until Christmas and then has been steady since then,  but still contacts in some way once a week to a fortnight.  Well worth the     Upload your gedcom and wait for the action :D
bye for now ancestor calling!

I used the surname search in GenesReunited and then searched for them in Friends Reunited and contacted a second cousin that way.  I don't think it is worth paying the extra money as most living people who are listed on GR are also listed on FR.

Hi Paul E

Do not know what happened to my post as Ticker contacted me.  I use netscape 7.2 on win98 and I can read everybody elses post ok and on rootschat.  did not seem to have a problem the first day I joined.  I have broadband modem connected to a router which has a hardware firewall but should not cause a problem.  I'll see if this post is successful!  Seems Ok in preview!

>:( grrr >:(

I hope nobody here is guilty of this annoyance.( I doubt very much any of you are)

Getting auto reply from people you contact on that site saying "this is not my relative" when inquiring after somebody they have listed ! :o
Why list them if they are not bloomin well related!
If they are in the tree at least they know who else they related to if nothing else. Some info given is better than none. Sometimes the smallest most insignificant piece of information to them can be a vital clue to ourselves. If nothing other than to rule the potential relly out of the possibilities.

Rant over....... :)

Me neither.  But I live in hope! I havent had any relations on any sites I've joined.  Wonder if that's because we're all in-bred.... :-\

Hi Gazza

Forgive me, but the way I understand it, you are reading it the wrong way round.

If someone contacts me who has a Joe Bloggs in their tree,  and I have Ada Bloggs in my tree. then when I reply I am saying that 'Joe Boggs is not my relative' - not that Ada Boggs is not my relative; as she obviously is because she appears in my tree

I am sure someone will correct me If I am wrong
