BMD registration
« on: Monday 03 November 08 16:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I looked up a death on Free BMD and then viewed the original image. The person I was looking for was written by hand at the bottom of the page rather than in the printed list. I've noticed this a few times, would there be any reason why they were added at the bottom? Thanks.

Thanks- just wondering if there was a significant reason for it but if it was a mistake then it's not important.

it can be significant, but usually only in the 20th C - when you see handwritten additions with a refn no. against them .... often to do with late alterations, changes of name etc ...

I'm looking at 1884. There is a different spelling of his name, he was German and so far I've found him as Jonas, Josiah, Josias and Jesaias.

I've plenty of census entries for the Cohn family & BDMs & now think I've found Francis Jesaias Cohn in 1891 & 1901. He changed his name to Francis James Cole in 1891 & was Frank James Cole in 1901 BUT then his wife & m-in-l's Christian names changed between 1891 & 1901 - all v mysterious!!
I'm in touch with someone in Holland who's doing some academic research on Jesaias Michael Cohn .
I don't appear to be able to send personal messages on the rootschat website - I mainly use other websites & only got onto this though a Google search - but can receive them so will happily send more info if you let me know your e-mail address.
Kate Emma Cohn was my friend's grandmother.
