Hello Marlene
Welcome to Rootschat. I've got a few bits and pieces on the Nicholls family. Daniel and Susan's children were baptised at St Helen's, Wheathampstead (which is also where I was married over a century later - my side of the family hasn't moved as far as your husband's).
Daniel and Susan's children's birth references and baptisms where I have them:
William:
ch. 27 Oct 1861, Wheathampstead: William Nichols, son of Daniel Nichols, labourer and Susan Warner of Nomansland, Wheathampstead (christened same day as brother Frederick).
Jesse:
b. Jesse Nickols WARNER, JunQ 1859, St Albans RD, 3a, 280
ch. 31 May 1863 Jessy Nichols, son of Daniel Nichols, labourer, and Susan Warner, single woman of Nomansland. (christened same day as sister Mary Ann).
Frederick:
b. Frederick Nichols WARNER, SepQ 1861, St Albans RD, 3a, 262
ch. Frederick Nichols, son of Daniel Nichols, labourer and Susan Warner of Nomansland, Wheathampstead. (his brother William was christened on the same day).
Mary Ann:
b. Mary Ann Nichols WARNER, JunQ 1863, St Albans RD, 3a, 283
ch. 31 May 1863, daughter of Daniel Nichols, labourer and Susan Warner, single woman, of Nomansland, Wheathampstead. (Christened same day as her brother Jesse).
Alfred:
b. Alfred N. WARNER, MarQ 1866, St Albans RD, 3a, 317
Sarah:
b. Sarah WARNER, JunQ 1868, St Albans RD, 3a, 333
(Sarah and her brother Arthur emigrated together to Australia in 1889 - I heard from someone in 2008 who I think was a descendant of Sarah, who married a Zachariah Austin in Queensland in 1890)
Arthur Daniel:
b. Arthur Daniel NICKOLS, MarQ 1871, St Albans RD, 3a, 373
Susan Warner died shortly after Arthur Daniel's birth - her death was registered in JunQ 1871. Daniel then married Susan's half sister Maria Hornet (who had herself been widowed in 1868) on Christmas Eve 1871 and went on to have three children with Maria, including my 2g grandfather, George Nicholls (1874-1931).
I'd be interested in anything you have on any of the family once they reached Australia - do you have dates of marriage and death for Arthur or Frederick? I hadn't realised that Frederick had emigrated. I do have more on Daniel Nicholls, but I have to go out now - be in touch.
Thanks
Richard.
