HOWARD family of Banks, North Meols, Lancs.
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 20:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

There were many Howard families in Banks, North Meols, but I am trying to find anyone who might be researching the same Howard family that I am.  I have census entries, etc. for my ancestor, William Howard, born 10 Sept. 1870.  He married Mary Rimmer of Southport in Dec. 1892 in Southport.

William's father appears to be William Howard, b. abt. 1833 in Crossens, N. Meols.  To my knowledge, he married Jane Ball in Ormskirk district in June of 1857.

If there is anyone reading this message who might be related, I would love to hear from you.

I know that this is from a long time ago, but there was at least one Howard family from the Southport area who went to Canada.
A Nathan Howard married a Mary Isherwood ( b. c 1840/ 50s), and they went to Canada in the later years of the 19th C, to either Toronto  or Montreal. I believe they had a largish family. There were some Isherwoods, related, in-laws, I think, who also went out, and also stayed, and certainly there was some correspondence shortly after WW2 from a Mrs George Isherwood in Toronto to relatives in the Southport area. Some relatives went out to visit, and later came back to England.
The Isherwoods from Southport came from at least two distinct families and there is often confusion. There are two William Isherwoods about the same age, one is connected with railways, one is a carter, and they are not really related, although both families originated in Bolton area of lancs in previous generations.
"Howard" is a very long established Southport name. Enquiries to the Southport family history society online should provide helpful information.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. I'm afraid that the North Meols Family History Society, which used to be a superb help for finding out about all the "Usual" Southport area surnames, seems to have simply vanished - not even the forum archived, sadly. Like every other Southport family, there are Howard(s) married in all over.
