Thanks both for your trouble.   Mum is so excited, but naturally at her age finding it difficult to assimilate the information.   However, she remembers an Uncle Harry (Henry) and an Aunty Margaret (apparently she drank).     She also keeps referring to the fact that they lived in Pearl Street (must be remembering the Houghs) so it looks as though we are definitely onto the right track.    Lynn

Im sorry if I'm being repetitive - expecially since these do look promising - but please dont go too far and get all excitied without proof - you do really need that certificate  ::)

Thanks Mum44 - I take your point.   From the info we have though I agree with you that they look very promising - especially the Houghs.   When I showed her the last message she remembered Arthur and Edith and has always maintained they lived on Pearl Street (I remembered her telling me that years ago).   Lynn

Hi Mum44 and Silvery

I sent off for the marriage certificate last week.   Will you be able to help me further or point me in the right direction once we have that certificate?

Thanks Lynn

They're pretty quick at the GRO these days, so you should get it in the next day or so.   Look forward to seeing what's on it.

The families posted look very promising, and I think they will be the ones, but it's always best to be certain and get some documentation.  There's no point tracing the wrong family.  I totally agree with mum.     :)

Hi Mum44 and Silvery

Hope you have a great holiday Mum and Silvery will let you have the details as soon as I have them.   Isn't it strange but since I have started this search for my Mum she has remembered all sorts of interesting info about the Houghs and Slaters.   She has never spoken about her grandparents or aunts and uncles before, but I suppose times were very different then.   I suppose it's also true that I never asked!!

Hi

I've received the marriage certificate.   Florence Hough and Frank Slater (a blacksmith) both aged 21 married November 2nd 1918.   Both were residents of Butley at the time of marriage.   Frank's father was Fred Slater, a Gardener and Florence's father was indeed Albert Edward Hough also a Gardener.   Another piece of info that Mum remembered was that Florence had a sister called Annie and she is one of the witnesses to the marriage.   It looks as though we were definitely onto the right track.   Is it possible now to help me trace them back?   Your help would be very much appreciated by both Mum and myself.   Lynn
