making sense of telephone number
« on: Sunday 26 October 08 20:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I recently went to the U.K. to track down family and do some research.  I had a wonderful time, but could not track down my brother.  The day I returned to Canada I checked my e-mails and there was one from my brother saying he would like to get in touch. He put down his telephone number, but I am not sure if it is a cell phone or land line and I was wondering if I put the first few numbers could someone tell me where the area was, and if it is a cell phone number.

07815

Thanks for any help.

Kassie

As far as I know, all British registered mobile phones (known elsewhere as cell phones  ;) ) begin with the numbers 07....

Landlines all begin 01...  or 02...

Thank you Zoe and Nell.

Now I just have to find out if I need to use an international code first or just dial the number.

regards

Kassie

Probably add the UK code, which is 44 I believe, and then knock off the first 0 from the number.

Hi

The cost would depend upon your providers rates to ring an overseas mobile and how long you are on the call.

I don't know whether its appropriate or not but you could send a txt message asking if he has a landline number.

I have a friend in USA- Pennsylvania, who rang her long lost cousin on a mobile number, they chatted for a good while,as they had many years to cover.
She then got the bill from her phone company............30$ !!!

Cheaper than the flight over here though!  ;D
