Hi there,

I'm trying to trace a Dorothy Wake. I've already checked the Durham online records which show:
Burials, Gateshead District - Record Number: 457692.2
Location: Gateshead Fell
Church: St. John
Religion: Anglican
11 Apr 1865 Dorothy Wake, of Wreckenton, age: 25
But to tie her in I really need to know if there are any connected family names on the gravestone if one exists.

Any help you can give would be truly appreciated.

Magnus

Hi Saffy
If you click on this link http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/ and when it loads, it can be slow at times, click on the search tab and on the next page that opens enter NE10 9RP in the keyword box and click search it should take you to a modern day map. If you choose the 1938-1950 map from the select map drop down you should see Hays Cottages. They don't appear on later maps.
Added: There are 2 potential deaths in FreeBMD in Gateshead 1; 1905 aged 47. 2; 1908 aged 45.
Gary

Gary, thanks so much for this. I hadn't seen that map site before, brilliant. I see they didnt go far at all. They were in the Causey pub a few years later.
Will check out those two deaths.....Thank goodness for the family name Robson Smith, otherwise I wouldnt have got anywhere. Grateful to you.

My g. grandfather William Smith (son of Robson Smith) was born there in September 1861.
I also cannot find his death. It was between 1901 and 1911 and 0n 1901 his address was Ivy Houses, Eighton Banks Lamesley. He is there with his wife Sarah and  5 children, but not on the 1911 by which time the rest of his family are back at Lowreys Lane.
Appreciate any help thank you.

If he died whilst still at Ivy Houses (I am told near the Angel) Would he be registered in Chester le st.
If it was after they moved to Lowreys Lane, then presumably Gateshead?

Thanks

Hi Saffy

According to DRO Eighton Banks was in the registration district of C-L-S 1857 to 1900. No mention of where it was after 1900? I would assume Gateshead.

Once again Gary, thank you very much.
William Smith is needle in a haystack stuff.
I cant afford to buy every possible cert. to find him...

I have tried to check St Johns for graves, as my family went there and also St Helens.
But couldnt find any graves, and dont think I can check the registers on line.
I am in Bedfordshire you see.
Was getting a lot of help from my friend who lives right by St Johns, but she is now in poor health.
Smiths....grrr

Hi Saffy
I have checked all my transcriptions for St John plenty of smiths but not a William in sight. If he died at Eighton Banks then he could be buried at St Thomas, Saltwell Road & Gateshead East could be possibilities. If you have a wifes name for William I will look out for him.

Opps sorry about the wife. I see she is called Sarah. Have you got a dob for Sarah??
