Gateshead Fell 1800's, 1900s. Can I help anyone?

Hi,
Just found this link and suspect I could keep you rather busy as I have a lot of relatives in the area.
My first is Thomas and Catherine Miller address at Blue Quarries, GAteshead in the 1851 census. They both died in 1854 at Gateshead Fell, leaving a family of five to fend for themselves. The eldest Bartholemew was just 14. the youngest three years old.Thomas was a Mason.
DO you recognise the names and is the area still standing.

Hi Lesley

The Blue Quarries area of Sheriffs Hill was demolished from 1920 to 1940. You can see some old photographs of the streets and houses at this link http://www.rootschat.com/links/05sn/  . There are a few Millers buried at St Johns church, but as yet no Thomas & Catherine c 1854, I still have about 50% of the gravestones to transcribe.
If you know where any of your Millers are buried let me know and I will check my database.

Sorry for not getting back to you but I have only just read your post dated Sunday 11th January - don't know what happened, why I missed it.

What can I tell you regarding names and dates then?

My GGG Grandparents Bridget and Patrick Mellon(Mellan) are living with their family at Bottle Houses, Bill Quay in 1881.  Then in 1891 and 1901 at Prospect Terrace.

I do not know Gateshead Fell, or Newcastle to be honest as I live in Birmingham, but from looking at photographs on Gateshead Council web site I believe where they lived was a "very poor" area.

My Grandfather was born in Brewery Lane in 1899.

I would guess that the area where my ancestors lived no longer exists.

Most of the marriages of my ancestors took place at St Patricks Chapel.

Patrick passed away in 1904 - I do not know where he is buried - would St Patricks be a possibility?

To Preshaus. Thanks for the offer of the gravestone photos - how do you send them? And whilst most of the Hall's in St John's won't be mine (ie there is a 'new' one Henry HALL near the south wall - not mine), all of the WALES headstones are my relatives.
Matthew WALES lived on Egremont Gardens, just off Sodhouse bank. And the Joseph Foster WALES stone right be the East entrance to the church, is not the original. The original was a high one and broke across the middle, so some of the data would be eliminated.

I have Matthew Patterson Wales d 1966 and Joseph Foster Wales d 1933. There may be others as I still have 250 or so stones still to transcribe. If you would like the photographs just let me know I will PM you email address. The files are about 2mb each in order to keep as much detail as possible.

Hello again, thanks for the link to the picture.
Can you see if you have anything on a couple of other Millers - Ralph Miller buried Oct 21st 1862 and James Miller aged 3 in 1862 also.
Also a Gilbert Miller died 4th qtr 1863.
