Hello,

My Gt Grandad was a clerk for the NER and moved to Low Fell from Darlington about 1884. He seemed to move about a lot with his job but always came back to Low Fell so I'm thinking he probably owned his own house at some point. In 1885 the address was Wesley Street, and between 1896 - 1899 they were at 13 Albert Drive. For the 1901 census they were at East Boldon, but in 1902 lived at 3 Tynevale Terrace, Gateshead, where he died of TB.

Does anyone know what these addresses were like in those days?

Regards,
Colin

Can you see if you have anything on a couple of other Millers - Ralph Miller buried Oct 21st 1862 and James Miller aged 3 in 1862 also.

Hi Gary,

Thanks very much for the link. I managed to find 8 images which included a beautiful picture of the new park and the houses in 1906. There was also one for a house 2 doors away from where they lived. On google maps, it looks as though the houses are still there so a trip is not far away.

Many thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin

I live in Low Fell. Albert Drive is indeed still alive and kicking and every bit as grand as it looks on the photos. Wesley street is not to far away. As for Tynevale Terrace that is in Bensham which borders Low Fell.

Hi Gary,

Google maps is very good for finding places but it's not always possible to see if they have been redeveloped. I live in Darlington so there's no problem in checking them out, especially as the weather is getting better. It's much better than sitting in front of a screen.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin

We might pass each other. My late Mother and Grandmother where born in Darlington. My Great Grandfather is buried in Darlington North Cemetery and I mean to get down and see if he has a headstone.

I'm just a couple of hundred yards from there. If you let me know his name and the year I can check it out. ;D

Hi Colin

Thank you for the offer. If you can possibly  find a gravestone for William Samuel Jackson died 1934. I have the burial rights document which states he is buried in grave space 11 section A letter XX if that is of any use.
