Gary and Patrexjax,

I have just been looking for all the notes I made of the Stell family of Washington - thank goodness I never throw anything away!
I have also got a Thomas Stell b. Washington married to Margaret Hutchinson b. Whickham to Gabriel Hutchinson and Margaret Row.. Married 25.04.1695 M000971, they had 6 children all born in Washington, P000971.
Thomas was b. 27.01.1667 in Washington to Thomas Stell and Elizabeth Coxon, Thomas had 5 siblings.
In Gateshead there was a John Stell who married Jane Johnson they also had 6 children.
I went back further with these families but couldnīt find a James anywhere!

This is why I went back to Whickham......James lived to a grand old age old age but his birth is a mystery.
Even on Durham Records Online there  isnīt anything about his birth-baptism.

By the way, with my notes I hadnīt anything on Stellīs of Ryton I think I had better try there.

Denise

Rob

This is the inscription (as best as I can transcribe it) for the Mary Hall @ St Albans

In Rememberance Of
Mary Hall
Beloved Wife Of
James Hall
Who Departed This Life
Febry 18? 1861? Aged 55? Years
Also Their Daughter Mary
Who Died July 1st 1874
Aged 21? Years
Also Their Son John
Who Died April 6th? 1892
Aged 66?

Where ever there is a ? after the date means it is my best guess.

Hi Denise

I'm not sure if you came across this marriage.
William Stell & Eleanor Harrison at Durham Cathedral on the 14 July 1722.

Hi Gary,

No, I hadn't seen this marriage at all.  Where did you find it?

These could possibly be the  parents of James, it is the correct
time frame in any case.  Please could you let me know where
you found them?

Refards, Denise

Thanks Gary,

The link got me straight onto the page.

I see you have Murray of Cumberland.

You don't by any chance have a Mary Murray that moved down to
Chorley, Lancashire.  Mary married John McHugh/McQue in 1870 in Chorley.
Her father was named Patrick Murray, he was deceased at the time of
the marriage but his profession was given as Agrigultural Labourer.
 I have the Marriage Certificate.

Hi Denise

I'm stiil trying to track down my Murray ancestors. My GGG Grandfather came to Durham from Cumberland around 1839. Cumberland is a Murray hotspot so things take forever to find out.

Good morning!

Shame about the Murray Family Gary, thought I had better ask, you never know!

All of a sudden, I have found a Jane Charlton on IGI ch. 07.12.1735, Saint Nicholas, Durham.
She has 5 siblings and her parents are John Charlton and JANE.

James Stell and Jane Charlton had two sons, one Thomas and the other John.

I have also found a James Stell born in Keighley, Yorkshire. The birth year is 1818, too
early, he has father John.

I think I will stick with Thomas Stell who married Margaret Hutchinson as his parents although
there is no mention of birth/christening of a James Stell.
Have you any ideas about this?

Best wishes, Denise

Hi Denise

There is a James Stell born in Scotland c 1728 with a father as James. It might be worth checking out. It took me 2 years of searching close to home for one branch of my family only for me to find out they came down from scotland.
The joiner marriage index has a transcription of James & Janes marriage but what you might glean from that is pot luck it costs Ģ2.50 to get the transcription.
