Micheal and Sophia are on 1871 Census at Common Road, Barwell, living with Elizabeth Bates born 1859, granddaughter and Edward Bates born 1865, grandson. Micheal is a letter carrier.

I have found a list of burials in Barwell for the period 1813-1891, and with the information in that and a summery of christening record I have found on family search it seems Sophia had an illegitimate son William in 1824, 2 years before she married Michael who died 3 weeks after birth. So it seems someone was not so well behaved  :P

Burial 10 December 1824
William Cross mother Sophia Cross age 3 weeks

There looks as thought there are 2 families of Bates in Barwell in 1826 ... Michael & Sophia ... & Richard & Sophia both couples baptizing children.
