I am researching my husband's grandmother Jane SPENCELAYH.  I am not getting on very well with this surname!!

I have her sister Margaret married to John WOOD. Children Robert, Midddlesbro 1852 Edward Spencelayh, Middlesbro 1845  and John 1836 Whitby.

I have just purchased the books of 1851 census Middlesbrough. HO107/2383 Folios k to  z 190 - 412

Robert  WOOD 42 bn Whitby
Margaret WOOD 35 Whitby
Ralph WOOD 39 Whitby
Elzabeth WOOD 37 Middlesbro
John WOOD 15 Whitb
Elizabeth 7 Middlesbo

Folio 268

I want to find the youngest child to find the marriage of Margaret Spencelayh to Robert Wood.  Can anyone help please?

Hi Noreen,

I'm not sure I understand your question but for what it's worth, there's a possible marriage

Sep 1849 Stockton 24 225
Margaret Spencelayh to possibly George Robert Wood

Not sure  :-\

(PS The people you list in 1851 aren't in the same household)

Hi Noreen

1861c  RG9/3689/13/20

Robert Wood 1807 Whitby Yorkshire  Weigh Clerk
Margaret Wood 1820 Whitby Yorks
Edward Spenely 1844 Middlesborough Stepson   Builder
Robert Wood 1853 Middlesborough

I suspect that Spenely is mistranscribed!

Does this help?

Just in case you don't have the 1851 details, Noreen, the family are staying at Margaret's father's, John SPENDELOW (and Edward's name is spelled Spendelow as well). Jane and James Rose are also there - I suspect they are the ones you are tracing?  :)

Thank you Tati, Annie and Pam.  I know I am a bit confused about this family but I have difficulty locating them with this surname.

You have helped by finding the marriage and members of the family.

I will purchase the marriage certificate.   I have done hardly an research yet.

Thank you again.
