Sounds good to me Deb.
I think part of the secret lies in the 1851 Census and the lack of some of the Hedges being found.
Not sure I can explain this, I touched on it earlier.
In East Malling in 1854 we have 3 deaths.
Deaths Sep 1854
Hedges Susan Malling 2a 269
Hedges Thomas Malling 2a 269
Hedges William Malling 2a 270
I think 2 of these deaths Susan and William could be the parents of the 4 brothers.
Why?
Well I am hoping the death certs will arrive tomorrow, but Susan was 80 years old and Eliza HEDGES was presant at death.
William was 73 years old James HEDGES was presant at death Chatham.
Thomas was aged 1 and the son of James HEDGES.
They are all listed as sojourning at East malling this is according to the Burial records. Where William has been buried under the name of James HEDGES in error, possibly due to his son being James.
Death for them is listed as Cholera, Typhus Fever and Inflammation of lungs. I think there must have been an epidemic of something nasty either in East malling or within the family during this time that took the youngest and the eldest. Just wondering how I can discover more. I'm not far from East Malling perhaps maidstone archives would hold the key. Any Ideas
