Deb,

Did you notice my Edward Penfold marriage to a Lifford?

I was just curious if he was one of yours.  He may not be a traveller at all but just thought it worth mentioning.

I have found this marriage Jenny

Jeremiah Hedges = Sarah Ann Eastwood or Harriet Tanner
dec q  1870
Romford Essex
 4a   181

 Jeremiah b 1848 s/o Job

I found the marriage of the other couple ...quote from pages back;
Jenny ...re the marriage of Jeremiah ...the other man on the page was a Sidney Eaton

I have found Sidney Eaton , b 1849 with wife HARRIET in Romford , Essex on the 1871 census ...

so if Sidney Eaton = Harriet Tanner then Jeremiah Hedges must = Sarah Ann EASTWOOD.
~~~~~~~~-------------------------
I think I have found them in 1901
West Ham , 64 Boelyn St
Jeremiah Hedges head mar 50? contractor of House or Horses carts/Carv. b Essex .. wonder if he was making Vardos/caravans :)
Sarah Ann wife 47 b Kent Eltham
Mary A dau 22 unm b Maidstone
Walter son 18 b Essex Upton park
Jeremiah son 14 b Ditto
Sarah A dau 13 b Ditto
Elvas dau 12 b Ditto
James son 9 b Ditto
Caroline dau 6 b Ditto
okay I wonder if we can find sarah Ann EASTWOOD b c 1856 Eltham and see if we can connect her to the other Eastwoods we have.
deb :)
added ...errrr it seems she married young .... :-\
You know, there's rumours of horse dealers in my mother's family but I've been unable to pinpoint who they are... I think it may have been the Housden family of Saffron Walden but I am not sure... maybe one day I could link all this in.  My grand aunt always went on about gyspy blood... strange.  The Housdens are not in my direct line though, they're cousins via the Andrews of Chrishall.
Anyhow, sorry to go off on a tangent.
Does anyone have a list of itinerant jobs?  Many of these Tickners were Domestic Gardeners but does that mean much?
Hi James
I don't know about gardening being a Gypsey job ... most of them hawked their wares ...
Mat , peg, brush making; general dealers; horse dealers; circus entertainers; etc
