Sue

this is how we figure things are;

I have just found Olivia's christening which suggests her mother is Eliza JENNINGS:

Olivia Hedges d/o James Hedges and Eliza Jennings bc 1816 Islington
1 FEB 1851   Cliffe Road, Frindsbury, Kent

then we have William Hedges = Frances/fanny Jennings bc 1814 Islington in YALDING 1833

Also a Harriet Jennings = Elias Eastwood in YALDING 1835 ...witness JAMES HEDGES (her brother-in-law?)

If we could find Elias and Harriet Jennings ...that may provide more clues ...I have not spotted them yet !

see Jenny's explaination below....

Now how to explain,
William HEDGES Married Frances JENNINGS (Known as Fanny) on the 23 Sept.1833 at Yalding  witnesses at the wedding were John NELSON and Harriet JENNINGS
Then later we find
Elias EASTWOOD Married Harriet JENNINGS on  28 Sept 1835 At Yalding
Witnesses at the wedding were James HEDGES and Frances EASTWOOD

Now we know Frances JENNINGS was Born in Islington Middlesex.
now note Eliza wife to James HEDGES was also born in Islington Middlesex
I think Frances JENNINGS is also Sister to Eliza wife of James HEDGES

I am not sure how all this information could help prove a connection between the brothers but I am sure there is something there that I just can't put my finger on.

Hi Deb and Sue
My this family really are frustrating.
I tend to be very wary of some of the so called facts on the IGI this is an example of how things don't always add up.

Job Hedges
Birth:  About 1844   Breadhurst, , Kent, England
Parents:
Father:  James Hedges
Mother:  Eliza

James and Eliza didn't have a son Job born 1844 Breadhurst. He is Job 1821and Rosanna's , son. I think the person who submitted the record has seen Job 1844 staying with his uncle James in the Census return and assumed him to be his son.

So although Eliza is recorded as being a JENNINGS it would easy to make her a JENNINGS instead of Frances.
Deb is the record of Olive's christening only from the IGI or has it be confirmed from a parish record.
Just thinking the record is to good to be true. I must have my skeptical head on today. :-\

Hi Jenny ...The info of Olivia Jennings is submitted ...it is her BIRTH DATE and not Christening .... it also confirms the marriage to William Spencer that I had found earlier ...to me it looks like someone has ordered her marriage cert and her birth cert and submitted it to the LDS

this is what I found ; Marriage
Olive Hedges = William Spencer

Hi Jenny ...do you remember our discussion on page 3

Hi Jenny

Thanks

and yes, it is very common to have all this confusion with Gypsies/travellers, especially since they are not always found on the census returns. Also a lot of them did not know where they were born , which obviously adds to the 'chaos' LOL

Re; Eliza b Herts or Islington ... I think that the easier but obviously expensive way to go , would be to order the birth certs of an older and younger child.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if say Henry or Rosa's cert revealed that their mum was the Staines girl ...you would then have a marriage cert that you could order to see who James' (one of the suspected brothers) dad was ... ;D

I am still hoping that one of the censuses will hold the clue

deb :)

Yes I see that sounds like an excellent idea. I will  do that.
As you say might find more on the Census yet so will hold off from ordering for a very little while.
With your help we are forming a plan which is much more than I had a few days ago.

Remember ...Eliza states different places of birth on different censuses ...one Islington the other Stansted Herts?..

there was also a big gap between some of the children  ...making room possibly for a second marriage ...
