To all,
Sarah Hart, nee Wells, widow, married John Horsell, widower, on 12 July 1846 St. Peter, Bethnal Green. Sarah was the daughter of William Wells, Soldier, deceased. Sarah lived at 38 Old Nichol Street and John at 50 Old Nichol St at time of their union. Then in 1851 UK census we find the John and Sarah Horsell with John's son Robert & dau Eliza and her son Thomas Hart. Although recorded as son-in-law (which I believe was the correct terminology in the 1800s) Thomas is step-son. Thomas becomes a Doll-Maker like his step-father. John Horsell in later census docs is recorded as a silk weaver. You can also see on the marriage entry for Thomas Hart and Hannah Biggs that John Horsell, step-father of Thomas signed as a Witness as did Hannah's mother, Hannah Biggs.
This, of course indicates a death for John Hart of pre 1846. I cannot find him, Sarah and son Thomas in the 1841 but as lot of folk were missed or avoided the census thinking it was something to do with taxes. Obviously John died, soon after the marriage as there does not appear to be any other surviving Hart children. None pop up with Sarah in a later census. Although we find 11 year old Hannah Hart visting her grandmothr Sarah Horsell and step-grand dad in the 1871 census in Paddington.
Sarah in the 1891 census is a widower and an inmate in the Paddington District Workshouse, She dies in 1892
regards, palmeri
