1841 census Duck
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello. I'm trying to find details of the parents of John Duck. He was born in about 1829 in Birmingham and married in Saint Phillips in 1849 to Christian(n)a/e Miln(e)s - lots of spellings here!. His children include William born 1850 who was christened in St.Martins Birmingham.

I would be interested to see if he is included in the 1841 census while he was probably still living with his parents, but any information from 1851 or 1861 would still be very much of interest.
Thanks very much,
Samantha

I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to look for him on the 1841 census as it is only indexed by Parish.  I will have a quick scan through Saint Martin's...you never know...but in the meantime the 1841 census is going to be online soon. ( I have been helping with the transcription.) and you will be able to look for the family at this link

Hope this helps a bit,
Cheers,
Pam

Hi Samantha,

Ok... I'm reviving a 3-year old thread here, but I think I can help you out if you happen to get notification of this post.  While I don't have any 1841 census information, I do have the marriage record for John and Christianna.  John is my great-great-great grandfather.  His father's name is Samuel Duck.  His mother's name was not listed on the record.  Christianna's father's name is Thomas Milnes.

If you happen to get notification of this post, I'll keep my eye on this thread.  I have a copy of the marriage record I can send along, as well as other information on the tree.  Perhaps you can help me fill in my own too.

Thanks,
Brad

Hello Brad,
John is my great great grandfather too. My Grandma was also a Christiana so the name propagated down the family tree.
Christiana's mother's name is Mary Wright.
I would be realy interested to see the marriage certificate.
I will try and send a private message to you.

Hi Pam,

Were John Duck's parents listed in that census?  I'm a bit confused... because from later censuses John Duck is listed being born in Birmingham Warwickshire.

[edit: Never mind, I found that census.  This doesn't appear to be the same John Duck.  The John Duck we are looking for is almost certainly born in Birmingham]

Thanks,
Brad

Hello Brad
The 1841 census is for Worcestershire and John Duck is without parents and he is not born in county. Which means he was not born in Worcestershire so he could have been born in Warwickshire. The 1841 census does not say where they are born only Yes in county or No not born in county. So this could be your John Duck, he looks as if he could be apprenticed to Richard Foster .

Doh... silly me.  For some reason I was thinking out of country.... oops!  Your explanation definitely makes sense.  Thanks Pam!
