Isn't that a coincidence, I can't wait to come over to England and see some of these places.

Thanks Sue.

HI peter,More severns!
1901 census RG13 3144 85 11 55
Living at 53 Princes St Eastwood
JOSEPH HENRY SEVERN head M 45 Coal Miner Contractor b. Langley Mill Derbys
MARY ELIZABETH SEVERN M wife 44 b. Shipley Gate Derbys
WILLIAM SEVERN  son 20 Coal Miner Holer b. Eastwood Nottm
LUCY ELLEN SEVERN daugh 16 b. Eastwood Nottm

WALTER SEVERN son 11 b. Underwood Nottm
JOHN HENRY SEVERN son 7 b. Underwood Nottm
MARY ELIZABETH SEVERN daugh 6 b. Eastwood Nottingham
MAY SEVERN daugh 3 b. Eastwood Nottm
Princes St again!!!!
It's possible BERTIE SEVERN who kept the Midland Hotel is HERBERT, son of JOSEPH HENRY!!!!
BMD reg dist for these would be Basford-worth checking to see if there were any BERTIE SEVERN's-or just ALBERT'S
By the way Shipley Gate is where "Shipley Boat " is-and Stoneyford is just a few rows of cottages-near to "The Stoneyford Boat"-part of Langley Mill/Aldercar

Hello there,
Thanks to your old posts I've really got myself  started on my family tree this weekend.

The Bertie Severn at the Midland Hotel  Langley Mill happens to be  my great grandfather.  According to my father  he may also have kept the Clinton Arms at Old Brinsley.

You may be correct about the Clinton Arms, Sally. I will investigate further.

My father knew  Bertie of the Midland Hotel -and I remember Bert (who I think is his son??

There was also an Annie who I remember who was  Bert's sister

I'll see if I can find any of my old notes

Hello !

Annie was his wife!  Her maiden name was Lindley.  They had 2 children Joseph and my grandfather who was named Wilfred Lindley Severn after his mother.

Funny, I can't find another Bertie amongst the Severns.  My dad says he was definately Bertie and not albert or herbert which made his first name quite unusual.

Altho' Annie Lindley did have a brother Albert.....

Bertie Severn married Annie Lindley that's correct _ I have the marriage details

They had a daughter Annie Florry Severn who married Harold Holmes -this is the Annie I knew

There was also a son Bert _I think!

I'll have to find my notes!!!

Won't be too long -I hope

I have found some of my notes

Bertihe was the son of William Henry Severn who kept the Yew tree brinsley Notts (now renamed "The Farmhouse"}
He married Annie Lindley and they had the following children
all births reg Basford district

Wilfred L Dec qtr 1912
Annie Florry (married harold Holmes )
Walter Jun qtr 1915
