Do You Have twins in your family?
« on: Sunday 19 October 08 09:04 BST (UK) »
Its really weird I always thought the chances of twins being born in a family was a totally random occurrence. ???

However I have only come across two sets of twins in my entire family tree these being been in the same family.

My point is that it is obviously not a random thing but a thing inherited  via your genes (not levi 501's).

Do you have twins in your family?

My twins run in the PIPER family.

Yep

Every second generation in the STRICKLAND line there have been twins... and in one instance to date...... quads.. ( luckily it was my cousin... she had both twins and quads and yes they were natural, there was no medical intervention at all ). ;D ;D ;D

Yes sure do.

Twins apparently run on my fathers side of the family.  My father was a twin, his fathers fathers brother has heaps of twins as well.  I have lost count of how many.    Now on my fathers mothers paternal side... their are also twins.

Did you know that in the UK one out of every 80 births are twins. :-\

How the hell do explain this one? :o

Now I am more confused after reading this: http://multiples.about.com/od/pregnancy/a/familytwin_2.htm

No one is quite sure why, but the Yoruba tribe in West Africa has the highest rate of twinning in the world. A study concluded that the mother's diet was the cause, being high in cassava, a type of yam or sweet potato. The peelings of this vegetable are thought to contain a chemical that causes hyperovulation. In addition, a 2006 study found that women who consume dairy are five times as likely to have twins.

Yep, we've got twins in the tree...
In 1778 (my 6xG granparents had boy/girl), 1810 (my 5xG grandparents had boy/girl) and most recently 1841 (my 4xG grandparents had boy/boy).
In 1713 (OH's 7xG grandparents had boy/girl) and 1951 OH's Grandparents had (boy/boy only 1 surviving).
Neither of us are descended from any of the twins and all of these twins occur in different lines.
WIMBUSH - Everywhere :: MARLOW/JECOCK/JUSTICE - Northamptonshire/Warwickshire/Oxfordshire :: SCALES/BRIDGES/ENGLISH/SPINK/PETCH/GOOCH/COCKSEDGE - Suffolk :: GARRETT/GIBBS/FEARN - Warwickshire :: DEVOS - Scotland (Aberdeen)/France(Dunkerque) :: MURRAY - Ireland(Down)/Scotland(Lochs) :: TIGHE/TREACY - Cork

Strangely enough all the twins that we have found have been boy/boy...no girls at all.

Identical twins are thought to be entirely random while fraternal twins are a genetic trait which has been carried by the mother.
