I have a Samuel C Foreman in the 1920 and 1930 census in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1920, he is a retail salesman at a gas station. Doesn't match the 1893 passenger record, but he could have reinvented himself by that point. In 1930 he has no occupation. He is 52 in 1920, says he came over in 1885 and was naturalized in 1891. He has a wife, Dorothy, who is German and a son John who is 20 and born in Ohio.
In 1930, the only changes are that Samuel is retired and John is married to Goldie K, who is 36. It says they got married when John was 19 and Goldie 25. It must have been right after the 1920 census. Samuel also owns his home, worth $12,500, and has a radio.
Ok, now I think I have them in 1910 Ohio in Cleveland. With Samuel, 42, is wife Dorothy, 34, born Germany, stepdaughter Margaret Ions, 13, born Ohio, stepson John, 10, born Ohio, mother-in-law Anna Labryk, 55, born Austria, and one non-relative.
With this, I was able to find them in the 1910 census. In the household are:
Samuel Foreman, 42, married 3 years, 2nd marriage, born Engl, owns grocery store
Dorothy, 34, 2nd marriage, born Germany,
Margaret Jons, stepdaughter, 13, born Ohio, father engl, mother Germany
John Jons, stepson, 10, born Ohio, father Engl, mother Germany.
I have also found Dorothy in the 1900 in Cleveland with her first husband, Benjamin, and Margaret and John. Benjamin was born in England.
It looks like the John in the 1920 and 1930 census is John Jons/Ions, from Dorothy's first marriage. And I am not having much luck finding Samuel in the 1900 census.
Boy, so I hope this is your guy.
