Tunbridge Villa - Wellington
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 09:18 BST (UK) »
Has anyone out there heard of Tunbridge Villa on Thorndon Quay, in Wellington?
I have tried googling and have found no info at all.
This was the residence of John & Emma Turner and their daughter died there in 1890.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Lyn

1893 Electoral Roll shows him as a Railway Guard, so would make sense for him to live near the railway station.  Might even have been a boarding house.....

It's roughly where Pipitea Marae is now.

If you are still looking, street directories would be a good idea to pinpoint where he was living and address of the villa
Bye
Althea

Have looked at 1890 NZ WISES DIRECTORY
TURNER JOHN VOGEL, Thorndon Quay Wel, it says Thorndon Quay continuation of Lambton Quay, he is after DAVIES ST Intersect the 41st of 56 names , so sadly building nor mentioned, but by mixture of Misses etc..could easily have been boarding houses???
