Hi Debbie,

I don't know what information you already have but I found only one result in Scotlands People for a Catherine Mckenzie/MacKenzie born in 1900 in Kincardineshire...Catherine McKenzie born in the district of Glenbervie, Kincardine.

You can view the certificate here http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ it's a pay per view site. If it is the correct one then you should get Catherine's parents from it.

There is also an entry on SP for the above Catherine in the 1901 Census living in the district of Glenbervie.

Think this would be the farm's location -

There is now a Household Waste & Recycling Centre there http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/980404 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/980444

Thanks elaine.....it is my husbands family history, she was his grandmother and most of the family has died out and the history of the family has not been passed along...so we are really starting from scratch.   Catherine married a Herbert Wallace b.5 November 1901 he came from Kent and has a marriage registered at Weymouth I think.   I know Catherine had a sister called Bella and brother called Bill. As we are coming over to Eng/Scotland in a month I thought I'd get the ground work started and finish it when we get there.   Thanks for your help.

Hi Debbie and Elaine

This is the 1901 census entry for the Catherine in Glenbervie - all the children showing as born in Glenbervie:

William Petrie 53, gamekeeper, b. Durris, Kincardine
Elspeth Petrie 50, b. Nether Banchory, Kincardine
John Petrie 12, son
Douglas Petrie 10, son
Joseph Petrie 8, son
Elsie Petrie 3, granddaughter
Christina McKenzie 24, daughter, b. Glenbervie
Catherine McKenzie 6 months, granddaughter, b. Glenbervie

Address: Ladiesleys, Glenbervie

Monica  :)

Added: Catherine's age of 6 months would fit for a 30 Sept 1900 birth. Her birth cert. would show details of her parents, including mother's maiden name. It will also show parents' marriage date and place.  It would also be worthwhile trying to get, if you haven't already a copy of her marriage cert. in England (?) which will include at least her father's name to let you verify the right family for her.

Hello  Debbie

Before coming across it might be - will be well worth your time contacting the people at the link below.  I've used the facility and they were really good.  Am aware that the researcher that helped me has retired, but I'm sure an e-mail enquiry before you leave won't go amiss.

Regards,  Steve :O)

That information about the Petrie family seems to fit our search as my husband recalls staying on a farm with relations by the name of petrie who had a property near Leeton in New South Wales, Australia.   Thanks everone for your help.
