CAIRNS family
« on: Friday 17 October 08 15:33 BST (UK) »
hello!
I'm looking for information regarding my great great great grandfather....
Frederick Charles CAIRNS
BORN:1850 OXFORDSHIRE....but I have no idea where...
I know that in 1882 he was living in Herefordshire, England and then moved to Monmouthshire.

Does anyone have any information as to where he was born and who his parents were...?

Thank you  :)

Have you got him on the censuses? If so does he always just give Oxfordshire for his p - o-b

If you havent got him, then we can look, but dont want to duplicate effort
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex

I think I've found him on the 1881 census:

Llanganten, Brecon, Wales (Rg11 5455/90)

Frederick CAIRUS Head  age 31 Born Witney, Oxfordshire Occ: gamekeeper

Emma CAIRUS wife 32 born Ledbury, Hereford

George F CAIRUS son  10 born Ross, Hereford

Emily A CAIRUS daughter  2 born Presteign, Radnorshire, Wales

Edward E CAIRUS son  11 mths born Penybont, Radnorshire, Wales.

I was hoping that I might be able to look up his birth/baptism as I have a few Oxon CDs from the FHS - but not Witney! Sorry!

Jill

HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Thank you both for the info!!!!!
It looks like that 1881 cencus is right :):):)

I have his wife EMMA JONES (from Benjamins certifcates)
birth: hereford, so that has to be right :)
CAIRUS though.....would that be a spelling mistake on the cencus......? haha

The only census I have them on is the 1891 Wales Census
at 28 Brookside terrace, Cwmtillery, South Wales

And from my great grandfathers death cert Frederick is living in 19 Penybont terrace!!!

FreeBMD has no birth of a Frederick CAirns or Frederick Charles Cairns in Oxfordshire in 1850 ish

There are some Frederick Charles born at that time with different surnames - maybe he was born before the marriage and was registered in mums maiden name or something.

1861 has a possible

Rg9 907 103 2

This is a 13 yr old Frederick Carins (and yes, the image does look like that) as an apprentice in Witney, altohugh he says he was born West Rivington,Glos.

actually thinking about it, this is unlikely 'cos he is a shoemakers apprentice and your guy is a gamekeeper.....
