Ann Amelia Goff, look-up please
« on: Tuesday 14 October 08 22:06 BST (UK) »
I am looking for Ann Amelia Goff, born about 1835 in Kilgarvan, Wexford Ireland.  She later moved to Newfoundland before marrying.

Thank you, Sydney

Civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate. Have you tried searching for church records yet?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for the information.  I have not checked church records but I have tried to locate the names of churches in Kilgarvan at that time and have had no luck. This is my first attempt at tracking information through Ireland and am not really sure of all the available sources and resources.

Hi Sydney,

I am a total amateur to genealogy and I know very little. Have you tried Griffithe Valuation at: http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_placename_search_results.php?freetext=kilgarvan&countyname=WEXFORD&baronyname=&unionname=&parishname=&submit=Start+Searching

I haven't gone through the whole parish but I notice that there is a Goff family in the townland of Assagart. You can find places here: http://www.logainm.ie/?text=Assagart+&placeID=53426

Hope you find who you are looking for.

Best wishes.

Not sure if you are still interested in this information.

The Goff family listed in Griffith did not live in Assagart, but rather owned most of it, they lived at Horetown (now Horetown House, there website has some history of the family).  Horetown was part of Kilgarvan at the time, so it is lightly that Ann was a member of this Family.

Hope you find this helpful.
