I have an ancestor, Minnie Russell, who on the 1901 census was in a place called The Home of Hope in Gloucester, on the Great Western way. It was a domestic training institution for girls in need or living in poverty etc, to enable them to have skills to gain employment. I am trying to research it, and also try to find out why Minnie was there in the first place, as the rest of her family were all living together in Ministerworth, and as far as I can tell were doing ok. I have been down to Gloucester archives and copied what they have, which wasn't much, and have also contacted the Quaker family history society as it was run by Quakers. But just wondered if any one here had heard of it, or had any bright ideas where I could look next? I would love to find a register of girls living there, maybe it would tell me why Minnie was there, but knowing my luck that has probably long since been destroyed.....
