ETHERIDGE Baptism - Tring
« on: Tuesday 14 October 08 02:44 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping that someone could look up Baptism records for Catherine Etheridge who married James Allen in 1831 in Tring. I think Catherine may have 3 sisters Alice, Elizabeth and Sarah who also married in Tring. I've hit a brick wall with trying to find Catherines Parents.  :(

Hi Kristene,

I searched the Tring parish records for the period 1800-1815 but regret no trace of a baptism for Catherine.

Hi Kristene,

I found the parish entry for the marriage of Catherine which revealed that she was married by banns to James Allen on 04Apr1831 witnessed by Joseph BARBER and Sarah ETHERIDGE.
It is the case that Alice ETHERIDGE married a Joseph BARBER at Tring on 16Jun1827 whilst Elizabeth married James HIGBEY 19Jun1836 and Sarah to John BRACKLEY 15Oct1834 at Tring.   The 1841 census records Elizabeth HIGBY and family living in the same house in Church Yard, Tring as Charles and Lucy Etteridge, both age 55 and not born in county together with Rebecca 15 and Lucy 14 ETTERIDGE, both born in county.  The IGI also records the baptisms of John 23Apr1820 and Ann 20May1821 at Tring both children of Charles and Lucy.
Hope you can sort this little lot out.
Regards   ...   Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks again for all your help. I think my brick wall is starting to come down. Catherine and James named two of their children Charles and Lucy, hopfully after Catherines parents. I've been searching the census records after all the info you found and it looks like I'm now continuing  my research in Buckinghamshire, where Charles Etheridge was born.
Thanks again.

Hi Kristene,

Just to finish off, the Hertfordshire Burial Index records the burial of John on 02July1820 15wks and Anne 28Mar1823 age 2 both at Tring.
Good luck in Buckinghamshire.

Hi Kristene & Peter

Alice Etheridge & Joseph Barber were my OH's 3xgreat grandparents :).   I think Alice may have died at the Wandsworth Union Workhouse in 1864.   There is a burial August 15, 1864 at Wandsworth All Saints for an Alice Barber age 56.  Their daughter Sarah b1848 married James PARRISH in 1866 at Clapham.

I've not been able to locate a baptism for Joseph BARBER in Tring and no sign of him after 1861.
