McGregor McDonald Fort William

Hi - I'm New here...
I am seeking information on Duncan McGregor who married Margaret McDonald before 1811, the only child I know of is Neil McGregor b. 1811 in Ft. William, he married Janet Wood.  Neil seems to have left Inverness for Edinborough before 1841 and then on to Perth in the 1870s.  Does anyone have Duncan, Margaret or any of their offspring in their research?

Hey!  I too am researching Neil McGregor and Janet Wood.  Would love to share any info I have and to also find where your line is!  I too have been trying to sort out Neil McGregor for sometime!  I too have only found him; there seems to be no other children that I can find for Margaret McDonald and Duncan McGregor.  Hope to hear from you!

Where did you locate the information with his with his parents name stated?

Chased this before...

Collin...his 1877 death reg. has his parents...
His birth is nowhere to be found.
Some siblings pop up as Mc/MacGrigor.
Father was with Cameron Highlanders in France (providing its the right Duncan).
Never found a marriage of his parents.
Some claim his father died 1887 and that is a big nope. 
One son ended up in the US (Michigan I forget which one) his death names the correct parents.

Thanks Don, I note the family in Perth 1871 and the death you mention in 1877, it looks likely that Janet died Perth also.

I suspect the birth records for Fort William, around that time, were recorded by the Army. Fort William Church Records do not appear on SP.

Fort William is in the parish of Kilmallie.

There are baptism registers for Kilmallie from 1769 to 1854.

According to the Statistical Account of Scotland, "A part of the parish lies in Argyllshire, but the greatest part of it is in the county of Inverness". Notwithstanding that, Scotland's People lists Kilmallie under Argyll.

There is no particular reason to suppose that records of civilians in the town of Fort William or elsewhere in the parish would be recorded by the military.
