Ocean Park, Newquay
« on: Monday 13 October 08 16:10 BST (UK) »
Birth certificate says born Ocean Park, Newquay in 1910 and know he was illegitimate.  Wonder if Ocean Park was a home for unmarried mothers or perhaps just the place where living at the time.  We have no  street name so am now stuck!  Hope some kind soul can help.
Many thanks.

Hi paj,

Sorry I can't find any mention of it. There is an Ocean View but I can't find reference to Ocean Park. I doubt it was an unwed mothers home. Looking at Newquay baptisms there is no abundance of baptisms of illegitimate children in the parish. (I don't see one in 1910) There seems to be a lot of bulk baptisms around this time. The Church must have made a real effort to bring all the unbaptised to the fold.

In the baptisms over the next few years I see quite a few baptisms not of babies but older boys being batised with a residence of a most unpleasant sounding place "CofE home of waifs and strays" sometimes "CofE Boys home"  :'(

Cheers Kris  :D
