I really wish I'd known about the antivrus 2009 before.   It caused lots of problems with a friends computer.

Possibly not the correct forum to post this link.
I've not tried it yet but will do tomorrow at latest (my PC exhibiting signs of the virus - not sure though).  Using laptop at moment because PC really screwed up!

PS. bleepingcompter is a very recognised site.  Almost the equivalent of RC in the computer world.

I have just tried the Hugh Wallis site - such a good site to nip on to without endlessly trawling through Family Search, though that is a brilliant site too - and am very cross that it is not available at the moment.

Ancestry.com and Rootsweb, excellent though they are, seem to rule the (family history) world at the moment!!

On the Devon Family History message board there is a post with a link asking for people to petition Rootsweb to re-instate the website

 http://rootsweb.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/rootsweb.cfg/php/enduser/ask_new.php

In one way I feel guilty that it has been taken off  :'( but it was not only me having the problems and I just wanted to warn people to be careful. I only hope people don't hold it against me.

I'm moving my contributions to the discussion over to http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showpost.php?p=205942&postcount=68 as there has been some useful input there from the moderator of that forum

Thanks

Hugh

No-one really should be able to hold anything against you, Christine. But you never know with some people!  ;D

You reported a problem, trying to help others avoid getting an infection on their machines. It sounds to me like people should be annoyed with Rootsweb for not having adequate security measures to stop hackers infecting their websites. That is if the rogue coding wasn't inserted by Rootsweb itself...

AR or any of the other, more important, Mods.
I wonder whether it is appropriate to lock this thread now?

We all get the point.
