click on it or respond.
Antivirus 2009 is considered a rogue program and uses what are at best dubious methods to get you to buy their software at worst it causes an infection of your system using several trojans in an effort to persuade you that you require this particular product

Thanks everyone - I have found the rootsweb support address and sent them a couple of e-mails now - I'm surprised if they had a non working address on file for me but maybe they had my really really old one instead of just my really old one :)

I await their reply but, since it is a weekend - and a holiday weekend in the US to boot - it might be a while before they get back to me

The dodgy javascript points to googleanalitics.net (NOT to be confused with googleanalytics.com which is legit). If you go to the dodgy page it is blank, and viewing the source gives only:

<html><body></body></html>

... which means that the re-directed page is doing nothing whatsoever.

Some years ago there was a nasty crowd trying to emulate legitimate Google services, but there is no danger on the Hugh Wallis site now. The old 'bad' code is still there but it doesn't do anything.

I found the backup of (part of) my site and it definitely does have a link to googleanalytics.com which is simply there as a hit counter mechanism. It is NOT googleanalytics.net so unless someone hacked in and changed it, or they hacked into google or they hacked into some DNS servers or something it should be perfectly safe - it's been there for years without problem.

Since the web counter thing was only for my interest I would be happy to remove it in case it has something to do with this - but I need to be able to access the site to do that so I wait to hear back from rootsweb now

IGI and Ancestory old way was FAST not like these SLOW :-[ :-X.
I,m a firm believer if it works leave it alone ;).
High Wallis IGi  Index was invalueable to reasearch the past.
Let us have the old way back :).

As a researcher who has been tracing family trees for many years, I have found Hugh Wallis IGI batch numbers as pure gold in fact indispensible.  After all rather than going on familysearch and putting in a name on their search (many names do not come up when searching this site) I can go on his site,  click on for example, country, county and then parish/town/village that I want, and  can trace the family and also see at a glance that I need to order the batch numbers that are missing (IGI).  If the IGI is missing, and if it often especially the time 1800-1837 then I can order these records on fiche from the various family history societies  for the parish records, so I know to order fiche to read on my fiche reader at home.  Apart from that I have traced many family trees just looking at the wonderful Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers - my thanks to him.
You go on Hugh Wallis site, you have the choice of which country, then click on county, then on parish, and there you are - all records that you can look at, trace etc.
This site is invaluable to all us serious researchers, and I would like to thank Hugh Wallis for all his hard work for making the website available to us all, and making our searches so much easier.
I hope there will be a riot if Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers are not back on the internet soon. Jean a huge fan of Hugh Wallis over the years x

I use your wonderful website all the time, especially with my students. I teach them to use the gazetteer on GENUKI to locate nearby parishes and then to go to your site to find all the examples of their surname in the locality. It really does demonstrate the difference between patron subs and batch numbers input from the controlled extraction programme.

It works like magic and you should see the WOW! factor on their faces.  I really hope you manage to get a positive response from Rootsweb soon.
