for Hugh's information, a new Rootschatter can't use the Personal Message system until they have made three posts on the board - this to prevent spamming by PM.

At the risk of opening up my e-mail to a lot of PMs - here's post number 2

And here's post number 3

Please keep the PMs to a minimum folks - if they get too much I may not be able to respond to everyone personally so please forgive me if you end up not getting a response - I'll try to answer everyone as I always do but if it gets out of hand .... well - I think you know what I'm saying

Cheers

Hugh

Hi all ,
I clicked onto a link for Hugh Wallis`s site from a post of a fellow rootschatter. As soon as I clicked the link up came a message saying that I can  update my anti virus software with antivirus 2009. And what did silly me do but click onto it to update. Thought I was doing something I was supposed to to keep my anti virus up to date.  ::)
Ever since I done that I had nothing but trouble.[everthing fine now though] I run a scan about ten minutes after updating the anti virus 2009 as I realized by this time that  it was nothing to do with my Symantec anti virus. My Symantec anti virus always tells me when I need to update by a little rectangle box saying my anti virus needs updating. I found the Anti Virus 2009 and it was put into Quarantine. I thought that may have fixed it but no. About two weeks later I lost Internet Explorer and couldn't`t receive or send emails. It kept saying This site is experiencing difficulties and cannot find server etc etc. I tried for two days but couldn't`t get onto the Internet. I rang my server and they said everything was O.K from their end. I checked all computer cords, phone line etc but nothing was a miss. I was very frustrated by this stage. I got a computer literate person to come and check it out for me and he said it was a virus. Gord knows how he fixed it but he got it up and running again for me. I have no computer knowledge much at all [ As you can see ;D] but now I am very wary about anything that flicks into the screen.
It may also have nothing to with this Anti virus 2009 .Who knows. ???
I love Hugh Wallis`s site and hope he gets it up and running again. I`m not blaming Hugh at all but thought I would tell others of what happened to me. I now have AVG and have reg cleaner also still have Symantec anti virus. Hopefully between the three of them they can seek and destroy any yucky bugs ;D

Thanks Hugh :)

And an appeal to all RootsChatters - how about we just keep general "how's the site" queries on this topic, rather than everyone sending Hugh a PM.  Then when Hugh answers one query, he's answering us all  :)

I also got the antivirus 2009 and took ages to get rid of it.
What a disaster though. That really was such a wonderful sight. :'( :'(

Just to say I have managed to get the PM through to Hugh after he has so generously took the risk of posting 3 times thus opening up his mail box.

Having passed on the message we await the return of your brilliant site Hugh

 :-* Thanking you again  Jo

Yes... Thanks Hugh ;D
I just take it for granted that the sight is in my favourites box and I can't believe it's gone. I didn't even realise until I saw this thread this morning. I was on it yesterday with no problems.
Come back soon.
Thanks for all your hard work Hugh. :-*

Dear Hugh,

Many many thanks from a very long-standing admirer - and correspondent from the way back!

I have no doubt that many many of us will be only too willing to do anything at all that we possibly can do to help you with anything which might fix any problems.  You can send PMs to us if you think we might be able to help  ;D

All the very very best wishes to you,

JAP
