The other day when I was checking for useful family history web-sites to send to a friend who has just started family history research an "Antivirus 2009" box popped up asking us if we would like a free virus check of the PC. Apparently "Antivirus 2009" is a known virus, but AVG didn't seem to pick it up before the box popped up on the screen. They tell you that you have a virus and suggest you download their software to remove it. In fact the software is itself a virus and they then demand money to remove it.
We closed down the PC immediately and ran AVG but luckily no harm had been done. Next day I went to the Hugh Wallis site and the same thing happened. It was only today, when a friend said Hugh's site was down that my husband made the connection between the two, so perhaps that is the problem.
I too add my thanks to Hugh for all his work.
Beth.
