Just got home - got the notice from rootsweb that they have put it back on line. However I checked the page and it did still have the offending code - I HAVE NOW REMOVED THE BAD CODE AND YOU SHOULD BE OK. Do, however, watch out in case this hacker gets back in again. The page appears to have been changed on July 9th 2008 but, since I do not keep a copy of my password on my computer the intrusion could not have emanated from me.

Thanks for everyone's support

Cheers

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Thanks very much Hugh for this factual reference.

There is certainly a lot of technical information there (on British-Genealogy. com sponsored by Parish Chest) which, combined with the information on this RootsChat thread, gives a very full story.  There's obviously no point in all the complicated technical details from the other forum being repeated on this RootsChat thread, or for follow-up to be duplicated on both threads.  So it makes perfect sense for the technical discussions to be continued on the B-G thread which we RootsChatters can easily access.

It's good to see two different forums cross-referencing each other thus.

And thanks very much, Hugh, for - nevertheless - taking the time to keep RC up-to-the-minute with the excellent news in your last post above.

But what a horrid fright we all had for a while when we thought the wonderful Hugh Wallis site might have gone ...  ::)

All the very best,

JAP

Sorry to answer myself but ...

In case anyone else has been as puzzled as I've been about the now you see it, now you don't nature of posts on this topic ...  ::)

The main thread about the (now remedied) disappearance of the wonderful Hugh Wallis site seems to have been here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,333934

But then followed (not cross-referenced from this thread):
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,334164
and
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,334224
(the latter is now locked.)

Hope this helps if others are confused.   :)

JAP

I have replied here:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,334164.msg2139782.html#msg2139782

Perhaps a little more attention to the locked thread with all the "topics merged" comments and "please see here...." might have avoided confusion.  ;)

Dear Nell,

I've just seen your response here.

As I believe I've made clear over on the other thread, the last thing I want is argy-bargy.

If anyone cares about this matter (and I would have said don't bother but now I'm not so sure) all I can say is read my reply over on:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,334164.msg2139947.html#msg2139947

As they say - life's too short ...

All the best to all,

JAP

You might like to know that Rootsweb have now changed my password and the clean web page is still in place so I hope that it will not get re-edited by whoever hacked in there in the first place
