Mary Jane Furnival 1874
« on: Saturday 11 October 08 21:29 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my wife's great grandmother  Mary Jane Furnival.
She married Edwin Williams june 1902 in Brynford,Holywell , Flintshire,Wales
her age on the marriage certificate is 28, spinster - father John Furnival ( deceased) printer.

She is listed in 1901 census at Bryhyfryd ,Brynford ,Holywell, servant aged 28 born Manchester.
1891 census same place , servant aged 18 born Manchester.

In the 1881 census for Greenfield Holywell There is  a Mary J Furnival aged 10 born Manchester , Mother Grace Furnival aged 49 seamstress born Manchester , Lancashire.
Also daughter Frances Furnival aged 7 born Manchester . But I dont know if these Furnivals are the same as Mary J Furnival would have been born 1871.

I have searched  Ancestry for  a John Furnival printer  with a daughter Mary Jane but cant find anything.

I also cant find Mary Jane Furnival born 1873/4 Manchester.

Help !!
Please

Hi BTee!

Have you seen the marriage of JOHN FURNIVAL and GRACE EDWARDS in Liverpool in JUN 1859 listed on both FreeBMD and Lancashire BMD?   Also the death of GRACE FURNIVAL at age 51 in Holywell in MAR 1882 listed on FreeBMD?

Don't know if this helps -- hope so.

Thanks for that I didnt have access to the first two but had found the death, at this stage I didnt want to link our Mary Jane with  the Mary J daughter of Grace untill I knew more, just a case of finding out if they are all linked - the 'family' story is that  Mary Jane  was adopted and was actualy French !
Thanks again

It is probably worth buying the birth certificate of the girl in the 1881 census; the similarities are close and ages are always suspect.

Hi again, BTee!

If one has a computer, one has access to www.freebmd.org.uk and to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk -- and neither website chargres a fee.

Also, I agree with Richard about obtaining the birth cert.  Since Grace was a widow on the 1881 census, it may be the one way to find what was the father's occupation.  If it's "printer", as it is on the marriage cert, that's some good evidence.  At any rate, good luck.

this has to be the right one

Mary Jane Furnival
Mother - Grace (nee -Edwards)
Father - John Furnival 'compositor' ( type setter- printer)
