How about friends reunited?
Is anybody on there listed as a member of the regiment?

Hi Spannie

I maybe being thick here but the only William Henry Lowe listed for 1945 is a Corporal in the Royal Engineers - 222 Assault Squadron (which was part of the 42nd Assault Regiment, which in turn was part of the 1st Assault Brigade - they used the "funnies" during DDay)

Hi Annie

the "funnies" were specialised tanks used for the D-Day landings and during the NW Europe campaign:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/79th_Armoured_Division

As for photos it would be worth contacting the RE Museum:

http://www.remuseum.org.uk/

They may also be able to provide you with more information about his unit and how he died.

Quote
The 1st Assault Brigade, Royal Engineers was formed in October 1943 as part of 79th Armoured Division:

    * Brigade Headquarters - 149th Assault Park Squadron.
    * 5th Assault Regiment - 26th, 77th, 79th, 80th Assault Squadrons (formed from the conversion of 5th Chemical Warfare Group).
    * 6th Assault Regiment - 81st, 82nd, 87th, 284th Assault Squadrons (formed from the conversion of 6th Chemical Warfare Group).
    * 42nd Assault Regiment - 16th, 222nd, 557th, 617th Assault Squadrons (formed from the divisional engineers of 42th Division).

Units of the Brigade were attached to, or operated in support of, other formations deployed on Operation Overlord and the subsequent operations in North West Europe which eventually led to the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany in May 1945

Hello Annie,
We are writing a roll of honour for all the men buried in Milsbeek. As William Lowe was one of them, I hope we could share information.
greetings
