I did wonder that. I suspect that Eliza is an error by the enumerator.

Thanks a lot David.

You must be awfully busy as you are always answering someone's queries.

Your doing a great job.

When do you find time to do your own family tree.

Just the opposite, I'm not busy at all! That's why I spend all day doing genealogy. Mine or someone elses. It doesn't matter which! So long as the problem looks interesting. But I only look at at Beds, Cambs and Hunts which is where my ancestors were from, and where I have a lot of parish register transcripts etc.

Most of my own lines have been exhausted or just fizzled out, so I spend a fair bit of time researching those that have got back past parish registers into medieval times. I have the same 16xg grandmother through both my father and my mother. One descends from her first marriage, the other from her second marriage. Some of these medieval people are well documented, particularly those from the gentry and aristocracy, so it's not as difficult as you might think.

But this morning I'm about to start on the salmon cakes for lunch (I have a 9 year old who likes good food!) so the Powtrells from West Hallam will have to wait until this afternoon!

Good hunting

Thank you for your message.

Which names were you interested in as my Granddad on my mothers side came from Kimbolton, Hargrave, Pertenhall which are in your area.

I have just been in touch with another very very distant relative Reynolds from Pertenhall.

I met one of my very distant relatives and that all came from Rootschat.  I had just started my tree about 3 years when I was taken into hospital for 7 weeks, I was seriously ill. I got a message from linmey whose Grandfather or Great Grandfather was brother who married my William Smith Wrighton from Hargrave.  We have been in touch with each other ever since.  While I was in hospital I got a card, my daughter wondered why I was sending myself a card because the handwriting was very similar and it was from Linda (linmey).  When I was feeling a lot better and I was able to get upstairs I looked at my birthday cards, that my mother and grandmother sent me and when you look at their handwriting they are very much alike, my writing is the same as theirs.  Also my fathers writing is very much like his mothers.  Have you ever come across this before.

Well I will go now.  Enjoy your salmon cakes

Regards

Gillian

Hi Gillian,
Are you still interested in Elijah Lilley? I Googled his name and came up with your request. I am presently transcribing a tape made in 1978 of Elijah and Mary Ann's second daughter Florence who died the following year aged 99. She was still living in Kimbolton. She speaks in it of her grandfather with obvious pleasure. She confirms that her grandmother was Ruth Wagstaff "and Uncle Jim's wife was a Wagstaff. I knew Miss Lilley well and her niece gave us one of her chairs when she died. Is there anything else I might be able to help with?
Regards,
Shawhurst.

Hi
Thank you for your message.  I am always looking for information.  You get to a certain point that you cannot get any further, so you put that part on hold for a while, then you get some more information from people like yourself that has got the information, so you can add more to it.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Regards

Gillian

Hi, I have been looking through the census returns and parish records for Kimbolton that I have and have come up with the following
John Lilley 1816 m Ruth Wagstaff 1819. They had two children 1) James1852 m Jane Wagstaff. James and Jane had 1)Alfred G, who married Florence Mary bt 12-4-12 who married Frederick John Carrington at Kimbolton on 18-4-1936 2)Harry E 3)Frank A. who married Emily died 1969 and had five children Albert, Dorothy,Winifred, George and Robert. 4) Edwin 5)Arthur 6) Walter.
2) Elijah 1856 m Mary Ann? They had nine children Evelyn 1878, Florence 1880-1979 (this is the one I knew) John 1882, Charles1884, Wilfred 1886, Ada and Myra both bapt 28-9-1890 and Ivy and Mary both baptised 24-9-1893
I know some of  Elijah's children married but have no details as they moved away. Hope this is of some use and you can make sense of it. Where do they fit into your tree?

Best wishes ,Shawhurst
