IGI Vs SP

I've been looking for a wedding of william miller and helen smith probably in inverkeithing FIfe. looking on IGI i get a date of 18/11/1794 but nothing on SP. Is this common? ???
I konw that some IGI enteries aren't correct, so where have they got this

Hi Andy,

The marriage is there on SP. However, you may not be finding it due to Millar/Miller spellings.

William Millar and Helen Smith, 18/11/1794, Inverkeithing

It's on SP in Inverkeithing.
It's under William Millar.
When searching for names like Miller which have alternate spellings use wildcards .... Mill*r

As a (slight) side note, the marriage also shows in the other parish of Mid Calder, Midlothian. Either William (also indexed as Millar) or Helen may have came from that area.

thanks both I'd tried using soundex to no avail. a useful lesson learnt :-[
