1841/1851 Census - WILLIAM STUBBS
« on: Monday 31 January 05 18:49 GMT (UK) »
WILLIAM STUBBS - my greatx3 grandfather was born c. 1780's in Shropshire, possibly Moreton Say but not sure. He married Sarah Ikin in 1803 - definetly in Moreton Say.

Could anyone do a look up for me on the 1841 and 1851 censuses please? His wife's name was Sarah but he was probably a widower before 1841. I'm trying to track down his birth date and place and it will also help me to home in on the date of his death.

Thanks, Jill.
HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Hi Jill

i had a look in Moreton Say in 1851 but i couldn't see him. Some of the names were quite faint but ages were clear and there weren't many around the age he should be.  :(

sorry

Image marked Shropshire Archives

The writing on the outer cover is not clear, but above the first entry it says:-
1768 Ightfield. 1768. Births, Baptisms, & Burials.

Added in pencil 975/5 on the above page [another place has 975/5  another place the 5 overwritten as 975/1].

Inside front cover 975/1/4
P144/A/1/4

Weak even in Colour, but readable ...

1783.

William, Son of Sarah Stubbs, of New-Street Lane, in the Parish of Moreton Say, was born & baptized Aug 16th 1783.

No Father mentioned and no reference to being illegitimate.

Mark

Someone's family tree on Anc* says he died 28 October 1849 at Little Drayton and buried there on 1 November 1849.

I can see the Parish Register entry on FindMyPast but it doesn't record a date of death. Assume there's also a death cert.
