Eventual Census appearance for a Joseph BROOKS b. c1780
« on: Thursday 09 October 08 13:40 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon,

I'm trying to find a trace of  a Joseph & Elizabeth BROOKS who were visibly living in Hatton between 1806 and 1814, where they had 6 children:
Rebecca b. 1806; Michael b. 1807; Elizabeth b. 1809; Joseph b. 1810; Susannah b. 1812 and Philip b. 1814 (also died 1814)

Perhaps in the first Census returns of 1841 they might figure, probably in their sixties. (I'm guessing at their dobs c1780- c1785.) It is very likely that none of the children are living at home by this time.

They may even figure in 1851 as an elderly couple.

Any clues or info would be very welcome.

Many thanks,

Nick

Good evening,

Many thanks for picking this old message up. It so happens that a great friend of mine, née BROOKS, asked me to do research for her, hence the message.

I gave her a résumé of what I had found to date, but the short answer is that I haven't found the answer to my question ! So any input you would care to share would be greatly appreciated.

This site is a mine of information and of people with enormous experience in genealogy. I would encourage you to use it as I have made immense progress since I jooined.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,
From what i have found Joseph died before the census began, but with so many Jospeh Brooks's in Lincolnshire its nr impossible to determind a date. The elizabeth he married was of maiden name Barker, born abt 1784 in Tattershall. She is in the 1841 Census in Tattershall living with two children Ann and John, here she is described as a widow. In the 1851 Census, Tattershall she is housekeeper to her son Charles who is a Master Tailor, and she is still with him in the 1861 census. She died in 1867. I am happy to send you the census images if that is any help to you and your friend.
 All the best,
  Angela
