« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 22:40 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to find out death info on Eliza Wray (Morris) as her husband (James Wray) who died 16 yrs prior is buried in selby cemetery in yorkshire but there is no record of her.  Is it possible for a widow to buried seperately from her husband?

THis is copied from my condensed family tree:

James WRAY was born about 1836 in Preston, Lancs.  He was baptised on 14 Feb 1836 in Preston, Lancs.  Christened at St John Preston.  He died in 1906.  Death registered Selby 2Q 1906, aged 70.

He was married to Eliza MORRIS (daughter of Henry MORRIS b. ~1811 in Clifford and Esther  b.~1811 in Brotherton) on 17 Oct 1855 in Clifford, Yorks.  Eliza MORRIS was born about 1836 in Clifford, Yorks.  She died in 1922.  Death registered Houghton 2Q 1922, aged 86.
1861 census aged 25, with husband and child.
1871 census aged 35, status given as married, flax factory hand, living at Main Street, Clifford cum Boston, with three children.
1881 census aged 45, with husband and four children.
1891 census aged 54, status given as married, living at 5 Hope Street, Normanton, Yorks, with four children and four lodgers.
1901 census aged 65, machinist dressmaker, with husband.

i would appreciate any help with any lookups for this area.

Cheers

On your search bar put houghton le spring cemetery, and one called Friends of Houghton le Spring Hillside Cemetery will be one look at that, but  have you got her death certificate as Houghton le Spring could include some of the small villages round about.

The Hillside Cemetery was opened by Rector John Grey and consecrated in 1854.  Burials decreased here from about the 1940s although there were occasional burials up to the 1970s.

There is also the Houghtn-le-Spring Cemetery at Old Durham Road, Houghton-le-Spring, which opened on 1st March 1892 and has since been extended.  This cemetery is now under the control of the City of Sunderland Cemeteries Department which you can access via the City of Sunderland website.
