Burial Look Up Help Please Birmingham 1915
« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 10:02 BST (UK) »
Hiya

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction ?

I am looking for a burial/grave of Thomas Winter in Birmingham in 1915 J/F/M quarter. Born 1875ish showing age 40yrs when he died.

Does anyone have access to burial records for this area or know where I could search ?

Thankyou

You will need to find someone with lookup access on the NBI (National Burial Index) available on CD-ROM.
The BMSGH have contributed to this:

http://www.bmsgh.org/NBI/NBIndex.html for more info.

BMSGH will require a fee to look-up (and request not handled by email, unfortunately).

I have not found any online free sources yet, like BMD.

Good luck.

As a follow-up, I understand the lack of an online searchable database for Birmingham as a whole is the sheer size of the task. Taking Handsworth, B'ham as an example the database would have to cover 3 crematoria and 11 cemeteries, some of which go back to 1836. They report almost 70,000 burials since 1909.

An alternative to the NBI CD-ROM is microfilm/microfiche copies of the burial index's at Birmingham Central Library since the NBI may not be complete.

As an aside, for those with general West Midland interests, I would like to highlight Dudley Metropolitan Council's online searchable index for burials and cremations, which is not only useful for single enquiries but for one-name researchers such as myself.

Regards,
Mark

You could start here:

www.walsall.gov.uk/index/walsall_churches.htm

Sorry I don't have specific info for Walsall.
