directories for huddersfield 1881-1891

does anyone have access to any directories between 1881 & 1891 for huddersfield,i'm trying to establish a year for the retirement of a george sims as the proprietor of the cherry tree hotel in huddersfield.any information greatly received

Hi Spike,

I'm surprised aswell! you got no reply! as there will be be alot of bumph about the old cherrytree pub as it was on one of the most prominent corner/crossroads of Huddersfield town centre in late victorian and early 20th century. Near the railwaystaion enroute to Edgerton where the upper classes and mill owners lived. My g/ or-granddad was the publican at the Queens hotel about then.

Did you find your info on Emma Jane sims

This web site has a photo of the old cherry tree corner Click on Beaumonts and follow pages through. The website owner ggg-ddad John Beaumont was a street cleaner outside the cherry tree pub his son Joseph was a Straw hat produce maker and used to play near the pub as a kid and went on to live at Edgerton area. contact Geof the site owner can talk ancestry to the cows come home so to speak!

"the outside was deep cream whitewash
past Old Westgate - = ware the Estate buildings now stand & Central Church? Club
when I was a Boy 10 years old I stood on the (an arrow pointing) see mark
Pa?? ?? with a Rope & Twine Stand Farmers? used to buy there. no shop
