Sweet Rice- what a lovely picture of the old shop and welcome to Rootschat. You have to make a few posts before using PM system here (anti-spam measure) so if you post a reply here again then you should be able to send PMs.

Thank you for the welcome aghadowey and for the advice. I understand now. It's wonderful to be able to exchange stories and photos on here. My family lived in the Bishopbriggs Kirkintilloch area from around the mid 1800's. I had connections with the area right up until my mother died in 2001. I have another attached photo here and I would love to know where it was taken, is there a particular area of the site  specifically for photos? This one is of my great great grandfather Lawrence Barclay and his wife Mary Young (on the right of the photo)

Hello,
I saw your old post 2008 re., Crowhill Road.I`m sorry that I can`t  help you in your search, however, did your family ever mention a family called Callan sometimes known as Cullen.
They lived in Huntershill house at the top of Crowhill Road.My grandfather was known as Harry Callan (Cullen).

I would love to see old photographs of Crowhill Road.
John.

My Great Aunt Alice Rice owned a sweetie shop in Bishopbriggs, just a stones throw away from Crowhill Road in Springburn Road. They have demolished it now, you can see why in the cutting attached. Maybe your father got his poke of sweeties here. It was in the family for many years as her mother owned it before she did. It was called J. Rice. See attached picture.

This is my grt Aunt Jean in the pics , June Barclay x

Hi. My name is John Hayes and I was born at 45 Crowhill Road in 1947. The house was owned/rented by my Grandad and Gran (John and Mary Innes) who later moved to Auchinairn around 1953. I too would love to see pictures of Crowhill Road around that time. I have a copy of a picture postcard taken from the hill to the left of Crowhill Road (what is now Mavis Bank/Lennox Crescent) and shows some of the stone terraced houses. I worked out from the postcard where my birthplace was (no. 45) but don't know if your's is in there. The picture was taken around 1950.
