Can anyone help me. India relatives
« on: Friday 03 October 08 11:15 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone.

I was wondering if anyone could help me, I have been searching for my Great Grandfathers relatives.
From what I have heard when I was younger that my Grandfather was born in India, but got married and recently passed away here in the UK

I have  a Marriage certifcate which mentions his Father was a 'loco foreman'

Using the site Moving here, there is a record of my Great Grandfather coming back to stay here in the UK in 1955.(which gives me some confusion on his Birth date) But my Grandfather was married here 1949.
I don't seem to find a record of when my grandad came back.
I am looked on the various sites and cannot find anything to do with my Great Grandfather. Lancelot King.
I think I may have found his daughter who got married in India, but form what I have heard there were many children and I cannot find anyone.

I am just getting so lost,
 ???
Thank-you for your time.

Welcome to Rootschat.

More details might help but it's often more difficult to find 'recent' records. Also remember that details of living people shouldn't* be posted here. Do you know when your grandfather was born? and the name of his parents (Lancelot King? + ___)?

*Typing error corrected
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank-you for your welcome and reply.

The people I have mentioned so far are no longer alive.
I don't know where or when my Grandfather was born. This is why i am guessing he is born in India, as I have found his marriage and death records and not his birth. ( I won't place his name in case it is too close to living relatives~ I'm not sure)

His Father is Lancelot King and the birth date given in the ship's record ( that returned to the UK 1955) is 30.7.57 and his wifes name is Gladys King.

they possibly have a daughter Audery Edith King.
I have tried to search the names but seem to be going wrong somewhere.

thank-you again.

I see that Gladys' birthdate is given as 18.12.95.

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action shows the couple heading from Southampton to Bombay in 1957 - Lancelot William King, b. abt 1888, and Gladys Stella King, b. abt 1894.  So I'd guess the original birthdate was supposed to read 30.7.87.

Thank-you for your time Jorose.

Wow, it seems they went back after 2 years. I didn't see that record come up on my search with the Moving Here webpage.  I guessed that they had come to stay permanently.

I think you are right that it must be an error with his age, I thought he seemed to old compared to his wife.
Thank-you again so much - lets hope I can find something else with this new information.

Thank-you again Jorose

Found a marriage for Audrey Edith Mary KING, 5 Aug 1943 at Mission Church, Neemuch, Bengal, to Donald Ernest BIRD. She was 24 and her father Lancelot William KING.

First of all sorry for my delay in replying. I had got so caught up in doing both sides of my family history I had to step back and take a break from it just to come back with a fresh look.

Secondly thank-you Ian in your time in finding what looks like my Grandfathers sister.
I have heard that there were many siblings of his but until now she is the only one I have come across.

The only major problem I have in this search is that I don;t know where my Grandfather was born or when her actually moved to India.

I contacted the British Library and it has produced information that confirms he did actually work on the railways there.

Thank-you again for all of your help.

I know its been a long time but if findmyway is still out there I am able to provide information about Lancelot William Henville King and his wife Gladys Stella Mackeson who were married in India. If you are able to access Ancestry they are in my Calder Little public tree. I am a Mackeson descendant on a parallel line to Gladys.
