Margaret

Was there any reference to Thomas Watson, father being alive or deceased on Alexander's MC? Thomas Watson looks to have died c. 1874. There are a number of references to Wills & Testaments for him on Scotlands People around this time.

Having found now Thomas Watson, farmer and wife Christian in 1851 and 1861, the younger children Charles and George show as born in Lonmay - so not sure whether the entries for a James Watson showing a Logie Buchan birth place in 1851 will connect to that 1841 family, although names and ages are similar.

Hello Monica
It's been awhile since I have done any research on the Watson's. In the meantime I've been quite successful with the other family lines and have been in touch with lots of interesting "relatives". I don't think I thanked you and flst for all your help - I apologise and I'm doing that now!

I haven't got much further with my research  on Alexander. His father Thomas, the farmer, was alive at the time of his marriage. I have got a copy of the will for the Thomas Watson, farmer, we talked about. There is no reference to his son Alexander although there are bequests to his other children. If this Alexander died I can't find a reference to it. Perhaps he was estranged from his father. Perhaps he was doing OK in England and so was left nothing.

I did consider contacting the Buchan Observer again but they have been less than helpful to me. I could never find out if my letter reached the person who was making the enquiries. It seems bizarre to me that someone would go to the trouble of placing a very specific item in the classifieds of a newspaper but do not seem to be on any ancestry site doing research.

Hope you are having a great summer and once again thanks for your help.
Regards,
Margaret

Hi Dinah
I'm sure we're related. My grandfather (George) and your grandfather (Thomas) were brothers. I have replied to your personal message. I am attaching a copy of an ad from the Buchan Observer which seems to refer to your grandparents. The ad is in the Personal column
I have sent you my email address and look forward very much to sharing information with you.
I'm not sure that my reply to your personal message went through (I got an error message). If you do not get a reply please let me now and I will re-send.
Great to hear from you!
Regards,
Margaret

Hi Margaret and Dinah

Margaret, if you sent Dinah the PM when she had only made one posting, she would not have been able to receive it as new members need to have made at least two postings on the main forum before they can use the PM system.

Dinah, welcome to RootsChat  :)
