Hello Swanton

Welcome to RC, I'm sure you will find lots of help on this site, I certainly have.

Catherine Figg, maiden name was Abraham. I can't establised whether Catherine was the daughter of Robert and Sarah or Daniel and Ann. Both Catherine's were born Mentmore, Bucks within three years of each other.

Perhaps you can help me in this matter.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Carol

Carol,

I have not pursued the Figg line until now. On Thursday I saw a drawing titled "Great Aunt Figg" indicating that Catherine's daughter Sarah had other sisters.  As Catherine had a daughter Sarah and a  son Robert, I would hazard a guess that Robert and Sarah were more likely to be her parents than Daniel and Ann. My information only indicated she was from Mentmore.

Hello Swanton

I hadn't found that Catherine (Abraham) Figg had children Sarah and Robert, but as you say, it's very  likely that Catherine Figg is indeed the daughter of Sarah and Robert Abraham of Mentmore.I think I'll claim this, thank you.It is difficult to find the correct child sometimes when families name their children born closely together the same.
My connection with the Abraham family is that brothers Robert and Samuel married Varney sisters of Mentmore. The Varney family being my connection. What is your connection?

Thanks
Carol

Hi Alan

Thanks for the marriage date of Catherine Abraham and Henry Figg. I did have this, needed to find who Catherine (Abraham) Figg's parents were.
I think Swanton's cracked it.

Best wishes
Carol

Carol,

Sarah Figg was my great grandmother.  I have her year of birth as 1842, she died 20 Jan 1916 and is burred in Berkhamstead. She married John Nelson around 1867 and had 11 children.  Maria was born in 1850 and Ellen in 1853; they appear in the 1861 census REF RG9/843 Page 8. I picked up from ricky1's post that there were two more children listed in the 1851 census; Mary born Marsworth 1839, and Robert born Tring 1846. There is also a  Rebecca listed in the 1841 census giving a birth-date of 1831 if she is a daughter!
I have photos of Sarah and possibly two sisters but I cannot identify which ones; one appears older, one younger.

Alan,

thanks for the wedding date, I did not have that one.

Hello Swanton

I have found Catherine and Henry with children Mary age 12 Sarah age 9 both born Marsworth and Robert age 5 and Maria age 2 both born Tring, Herts on the 1851 census.

Assuming that I have the correct Catherine Abraham Figg, we are then related.

Would be lovely if you could share the photo of Sarah with me, would really appreciate that.

Best wishes
Carol
