Rhoda FOSTER_1891 where?

Hi,
Desperately need some help finding Rhoda Foster & family in census1891.

Rhoda ( Thompson) b.1858 St Pancras m.1879 Battersea to Charles Foster b.1857 Pimlico. Census 1881 in Battersea. Had children all Battersea. Rhoda Alice:1880, Charlotte: 1883, Nellie: 1884, Thomas Charles:1885, Alfred Arthur:1888.Last known address: 24 Longhedge St, Battersea on Alfred`s baptism.

Census 1901. She`s in Marylebone aged 43 Tailoress cohabiting with Henry Dunning a french polisher with 3 children + 2 by Henry Dunning. Husband Charles Foster on his own in Battersea.

Unfortunately 24 Longhedge St, Battersea is occupied by Gadd and Cahill families in the 1891 census - no sign of your Fosters there

Regrettably I really cannot find them in 1891.  I believe there may be some missing pages of the 1891 census for Battersea (?). See e.g.

though I cannot vouch for its contents.

I also can't find Henry Dunning - unless he's the same Henry Dunning (also born Westminster) leading a parallel life in Brighton with wife Barbara and kids?

Very unusual (and amusing) that Rhoda and Henry are candidly "cohabiting" in 1901!

I was going to mention that you should frame the 1901 find for its rarity value   


I wondered if the kids were just initials in 1891, but like AVM, cant tease them out..... interesting point about missing pages - Murphy's law if so

I`m not sure when Rhoda & Charles seperated, presumably between 1890-1900.

Well at least I know where Henry Dunning was in 1881... HM Prison Borstal in Rochester, Kent

It seems every census I have at least 1 family go walk about or the pages are missing But then we don`t want it too easy do we

:Hi, glad to have found someone who is researching my great grandmother Rhoda Thompson.  Rhoda Thompson's daughter Alice Rhoda was my grandmother, she married a Richard Alfred Allen in England and came to Australia in 1913 with her children Alfred, William, Reginald, Jack, and my mother Lillian Rhoda Allen, Arthur was born in Australia, I knew all of my uncles very well.  I have photos of my g grandmother Rhoda Thompson she was a tiny little woman.  I knew of my grandmother's sister Charlotte (Lottie) my mother visited her and other family members in England just before mum lost her leg due to melanoma.  If you would like to respond I would love to know who is researching my great grandmother Rhoda and what connection they have to the family.  I always thought Rhoda was born in Ireland but I probably had it mixed up with Charles Foster her huband who I believe was a stonemason.  I did not know about her relationship with Henry Dunning until I recently read your posts.  I hope you get this message as I have only just got onto this site and did not know when your messages were posted. I am really excited to have found some of my English family, my mother Lillian visited England and her mother's family in England I know there was a Sylvia and a Beryl but not sure what side of the family these people came from.

Hi Maeve again, just remembered I should tell you my mother and her older brothers were all born in Battersea, I am pretty sure they lived where my g grandmother Rhoda lived, if you research Rhoda Alice Allen you may find the g grandmother Rhoda Thompson listed as living with them in the 1901 census, not sure when my grandmother Rhoda, grandfather Richard Allen left England, I do not think they came at the same time.  However, my grandmother's bible has her and her childrens arrival in Sydney Australia as being March 1913.

Lottie Thompson was my Grandmother who married John (Jack) Thomas Kenney in 1890 Battersea. My Mother was Jane Kenney.
